JACOB W. NELSON

Jake graduated cum laude from the University of Utah in 2014 with a business degree in marketing before pursuing his legal education at the University of Utah, S.J. Quinney College of Law, where he graduated in 2017. During law school, he participated in several moot court competitions, received several academic awards, and was also invited to assist other students as a teaching assistant, where he had the opportunity to help fellow law students learn the art of legal writing.

Jake began his legal career working on high-value, complex personal injury lawsuits and has experience with all types of injury claims, including automobile, truck, and motorcycle accidents; product liability; premise liability; dog bites; dram shop; medical malpractice; negligence; wrongful death; and other types of personal injury lawsuits. He then pivoted and took a position where he actively assisted business and real estate clients navigate complicated legal issues and resolve disputes. Most recently, Jake enjoyed working as a medical malpractice insurance defense attorney, representing and defending health care providers—both individual practitioners and healthcare facilities—across Utah in administrative proceedings, licensing issues, and medical malpractice lawsuits.

Jake maintains a multi-faceted practice and enjoys helping clients avoid, navigate, and resolve complex legal problems in a variety of commercial and civil litigation practice areas. Currently, he enjoys representing clients in personal injury claims and lawsuits, defending medical malpractice claims, assisting with property and real estate matters, and resolving business disputes. He also has experience assisting clients with drafting, interpreting, and enforcing contracts as well as advising clients regarding compliance and liability avoidance.

Jake understands that each client has individualized needs and prides himself on being able to adapt based on those needs. He has experience representing clients in many types of legal proceedings including private negotiations and settlements, small claims court, pre-litigation administrative hearings, alternative dispute resolution (including mediation and arbitration), lawsuits in Utah’s state and federal courts, and appeals.

Outside of work, Jake enjoys spending time with his wife and three children. He is also an avid outdoorsman who enjoys fly-fishing, hunting, golf, and music.
